About Us
La Familia de la Salsa began in 2004 as a Salsa/Rueda demo team
comprised of 24 dancers from around the world. By advancing our mission statement of, "bridging cultures
through dance...one step at a time",
la Familia has has grown to become one of the largest Latin dance organization in Upstate New York
with over 3000 dancers on our member roster! We bring Latin dances to
our community every Fri night with our flagship event "Havana Nights Latin Dance Party" which is the largest and longest running Latin dance in the history of Syracuse! (see "Where to Dance")
Our dance school teaches 100 - 150 students per week, offering classes in: Salsa, Cardio Salsa,
Ladies Styling
and Cuban styles of Salsa known as "Casino"
& "Rueda de Casino" (a/k/a as the "Wheel") (see "Dance Classes").
Our dance ensembles and our Afro-Cuban Band, "La Rumba Cubana", have opened for and/or performed with such luminaries
as Salsa legend, Larry Harlow & the Fania All-Stars; Salsa
mega-star, Tito Nieves; Tito Puente, Jr. and his orchestra and international icon, "Charo"! Our 12-piece Latin Orchestra, "Salsa-Son-Timba"
performs throughout Upstate New York and has been featured artists at the
New York State Fair, the N.E. Jazz & Wine Fest, the Syracuse Latin
Festival and the Syracuse International Film Festival.
Please peruse our website and then come to our indroductory "Salsa Survival Lesson for Beginners" on Friday nights at the Ukrainian National Home Ballroom
(see "Dance Classes") and experience, firsthand, the joy, excitement and community of Latin dancing right here in Syracuse, NY!
You'll LOVE it......es una PROMESA (...that's a PROMISE)!
Que viva la Salsa!
